Fireflies

Feelings clinging to my skin, hair, and clothes like unwelcome pests. Little gnats of emotion; please keep them to yourself.

Catch my feelings in a bottle,

Throw them fast into a jar.

Lock them up, away, forever,

See them only from afar.

Sparkle, darkle, gleam or gloom,

See them whirling all around;

Slice them into tiny pieces,

Bury them deep within the ground.

End of evening, end of day,

See them all begin to fade;

Gathered quickly till they’re gone,

Hide them all inside the grave.

Catch my feelings in my hands,

Cast them all into the sea,

Wash them away, gone forever,

Kept far away from me.
