Demented

Alzheimer’s and dementia are conditions which affect all aspects of a person’s life. What would you do if you lost the fabric of your self? It is equally difficult for the loved ones who can remember the person you use to be.

Evade my questions

Smoothing hair with fluttering fingers

Covered in parchment

Relieved voice finding safer ground

I wonder where memory went

Since it chose not to linger

I see each remembrance as a

Tiny insect trapped in gossamer

Threads silken smooth surreal

Wrapped up and delivered

A buffet from your mind

That can only be eaten once

And each time repast is served

A gaping rent is left behind

Forming a widening shroud of decay

That disintegrates each time

We speak

Silence rules the day

And carries on its own conversation
